Social Progress Action Network

SPAN FINAL COL2

Social Progress Action Network (SPAN) is a collaborative initiative empowering local communities to transition young people from dependency to independency.

A local co-ordinator works with education providers, social sector agencies, iwi, youth and employers to implement Smart Waikato’s Youth to Employment model, ensuring youth are work ready.

YES PLS Professional Development for Youth Work Facilitators
Based on the Employability Skills Framework and weaving in strands of Te Reo, Tikanga Maaori and Te Tiriti o Waitangi, YES PLS Puukenga Whakatupu Ora has been developed to give those working with young people a leading edge when helping rangatahi transition to employment.

SPAN may include FAN events and FAN tools, and customised technology such as Smart Waikato’s Ready 2 Work smartphone app.

History

SPAN was born in 2015 when Smart Waikato Trust and Nga maramara o Rahui Pookeka combined forces to create more opportunities for rangatahi. About 40 people attended a hui for Ngaruawahia-Huntly people working with youth, subsequently underpinning the development of the collaborative youth strategy in March 2016.
